Surgical Treatments

Gingival Flap This procedure is recommended when pockets are very deep and inaccessible to instrumentation by scaling and root planing.

This procedure is designed to gain access to deep pockets by opening the gum surgically to expose the root surface and injured bone socket for more precise and careful debridement and cleaning. This is a comparatively conservative surgical procedure which has been thoroughly documented over many years.

It is a proven and predictable remedy for advanced periodontal disease. Another name for this procedure may be Reattachment Flap Curettage.

Teeth bone decay

Osseous Surgery This is a modification of gingival flap surgery. It is particularly applicable to some types of periodontal disease where bone deformities or unusual anatomic bony defects have been formed during the progressive disease process.

Osseous (bone) surgery refers to reshaping (osteoplasty) the bony defect to create more harmonious and physiologic anatomy which will promote more predictable reattachment of the gum tissue to the cleansed root surface.

This may result in recession, but this may be necessary in order to achieve a predictable and long lasting treatment outcome.

Regenerative Surgery Modern technology has created treatment procedures which can grow back lost bone. Materials for bone grafting now exist which promote predictable regeneration.

These are limitless based upon the circumstances of each individual case, but regenerative surgery has an ever increasing and widening array of indications.
